Tokenisation of Assets
Tokenisation is the process of representing real-world assets as digital tokens on a blockchain.
From the internet of information to the internet of value
Tokenisation refers to representing real world assets as digital tokens on a blockchain. This enhances liquidity, accessbility and security. Put very simply, imagine if you could invest in real estate with as little as a pound. Normally, you would need to purchase an entire property – with tokenisation, you could invest as little as you wanted, and property could be subdivided into the centimeter squared.
The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is the best platform for such tokenisation, due to fast transaction speeds, low fees, and built-in decentralised exchange. XRPL uses trust lines and gateways, where users set up a verified pathway to specific issuers, guaranteeing the legitimacy of assets.
Once an asset is tokenised, it can be traded on the decentralised exchange (DEX) – no intermediaries required. Transactions are recorded on the ledger allowing for maximum transparency.
1. Fiat Currencies and Stablecoins – financial institutions can issue Stablecoins pegged to fiat currencies. This allows for practically instant, cross-border transactions with little to no fees, far from the traditional systems in place.
2. Real Estate – fractionalisation allows owners to sell buildings or land like shares, allowing people to purchase sections of property, or entire buildings, with almost infinite flexibility.
